"Some Americans contact us sometimes, asking us to exchange him with other detainees, but the sentence has not been announced yet," said judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, quoted by Iran's Fars news agency. Two loud blasts and shots were heard earlier as the gunmen launched an attack from a nearby house after darkness fell, Muneer Ahmad Farhad, a spokesman for the Balkh province governor said. The driver, unemployed for several months, rammed his car into a group of four soldiers in a car park outside a large mosque in the southeastern town of Valence on Friday afternoon, investigators said. India's Meteorological Department said the epicenter of the quake was in Tamenglong region of Manipur state. It struck before dawn on Monday at a depth of 17 kilometers (about 10 miles) in the India-Myanmar border region. The U.S. Geological Survey said the depth was 55 kilometers (about 34 miles). People panicked and rushed out of their homes in Gauhati, the capital of neighboring Assam state as they felt massive shaking at least twice within 60 seconds. |
