Top Asian News at 11:30 p.m. GMT Posted: 08 Jun 2015 04:33 PM PDT TRANG BANG, Vietnam (AP) — He stands in the northbound lane of Vietnam's Highway 1, traffic swirling around him, horns honking. He is pointing. Right there, he says — that's where it happened. That's where the screaming children appeared. That's where I made the picture that the world couldn't forget. Huynh Cong "Nick" Ut was 21 on that day more than half a lifetime ago when he stood on the same road, pointed his camera northeast and captured one of history's most famous images — a naked Vietnamese girl screaming and fleeing after South Vietnamese planes looking for Viet Cong insurgents attacked with napalm from the air. |

Washington state to break ground on wildlife bridge over major highway Posted: 08 Jun 2015 03:30 PM PDT By Victoria Cavaliere SEATTLE (Reuters) - Bears, cougars, elk and even lizards will be getting a bridge of their own in Washington state so some of the region's largest and most endangered wildlife can safely cross a major highway. The Washington State Department of Transportation will break ground on Tuesday on the crossing, which will span Interstate 90, a major thoroughfare that links the Seattle area with eastern Washington as it meanders across the United States, agency officials said. The 150-foot-long (45-metre) wildlife bridge about 50 miles (80 km) southeast of Seattle near the Snoqualmie Pass will be the largest of its kind in the state, helping to cut down on collisions between vehicles and animals along a "critical connective link" in the north-south movement of wildlife living in the Cascade Range, according to the I-90 Wildlife Bridges Coalition. |
