The mineral-rich country was originally supposed to hold the vote in 2011 - but it was held up amid wrangling over the makeup of the electoral commission and opposition accusations that the government was planning to rig it. ... |

North Korean war talk: hot air or serious threat? Posted: 29 Mar 2013 01:02 PM PDT North Korea held a mass rally Friday with fist-shaking generals promising to "dismantle and terminate" the nation's enemies in "any part of the world" to an audience of deliriously enthusiastic khaki-uniformed Korean soldiers. |
Yemen's victory: Getting everyone in the same room - with no swords drawn Posted: 29 Mar 2013 11:38 AM PDT Outspoken feminists rub shoulders – metaphorically, at least – with Salafis. Youth activists mingle with establishment politicians. A representative of the Houthis, a rebel group turned political movement that has fought with the government for the past decade, helps run the show. Delegates from the southern provinces constantly vying for autonomy casually cross conversational red lines on independence talk as others in the room veer on declaring secession treasonous. |
