After five failed operations in Iraq and Iran, Mizhir and his father came to a hospital in Jordan last July, run by the medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres. Since 2006, Medecins Sans Frontieres, also known as Doctors Without Borders, has run a hospital ward in Amman to treat civilian victims of the Iraq war. The project specializes in reconstructive surgeries that are not life-saving, but are too complicated to be performed in Iraq. It is staffed almost entirely by Iraqi doctors and nurses.
